    Gulfport firefighter Tot Burkhalter says he was only doing his job. But others are calling him a hero for his brave actions in helping save a port worker who had fallen off the west pier on Monday. Without hesitation, Burkhalter jumped into the water to help save the man, who was struggling in the frigid waters.More >>
GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A maintenance worker at the Port of Gulfport had to be pulled out of freezing water Monday.

The man fell off the south end of the west pier where he was conducting an inspection. The Coast Guard and Port Authority officials rescued the man.

The Port has not released his name. The man was taken to Memorial Hospital at Gulfport. Port officials tell WLOX he is in stable condition.
