Vandals strike school buses in Ocean Springs

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Students in Ocean Springs were about an hour late to school Monday because someone vandalized most of the district's school buses.

Superintendent Robert Hirsch told WLOX News someone let all the air out of the tires of buses parked at the Hanley Road bus barn. In all, 47 buses were vandalized and 80 flat tires had to be repaired.

Hirsch says whoever did it, must have jumped the fence sometime this weekend, or maybe even early Monday morning.

Hirsch used the district's Connect-Ed emergency messaging system to notify parents that the buses were running late. He said about 2400 students, from Kindergarten to high schoolers, rely on buses for transportation.

Hirsch said what infuriates him the most,"is that someone jeopardized the safety of young children unnecessarily for the sake of a prank."

No suspects have been named at this time, but there was a security camera at the bus barn. That video has been turned over to Ocean Springs Police.
