Perfect attendance pays off for some Harrison Central students

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Dozens of Harrison County students received an early Christmas present Friday. Perfect attendance and a little luck earned 32 students at Harrison Central Elementary new bikes and helmets.

Since October, the school has been giving tickets to students who attend school every day, arrive on time, and stay all day. Their names were entered into a drawing and 32 were chosen as the lucky winners.

Academy Sports in Gulfport donated the bikes and helmets to support this incentive program.

"It's been wonderful, they've been excited about it," Principal Pamela McInnis said. "We had a few bikes here so they could see them, that's enticing, and I think it's been wonderful. We certainly appreciate the partnership with Academy Sports. We're thankful that they selected our boys and girls, and it's really been a blessing."

The school plans to continue to promote attendance by holding monthly drawings. Students can win toys and get their pictures taken with the principal.
