Breaking ground for a new hospital

PICAYUNE, MS (WLOX) -

PICAYUNE, MS (WLOX) - Picayune is getting one step closer to having a new hospital. Later this morning a groundbreaking ceremony will take place for the new Highland Community Hospital. It will be located on Highway 11 on 31 acres.

The new facility will replace the 57 year old Highland Community hospital located in downtown. In addition to the hospital, two new physician office buildings will be constructed on the Highway 11 site. The new hospital and one of the office buildings are expected to be completed by April 2012 with the hospital expecting to see its first patients in July of that year. The other office building is slated to be open by this summer.

Representatives from Forrest General Hospital, Highland Community Hospital, Roy Anderson Corporation and Forrest and Pearl River Counties will participate in today's ground breaking ceremony. WLOX News be there and will show you later today on wlox.com and WLOX News what is planned for these new medical facilities and what they mean to Picayune and surrounding communities.
