Jail fees have gone up in Forrest County

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) – Jail fees have gone up in Forrest County.

The increase is for housing non-county inmates in the Forrest County Jail.

The Hattiesburg American reports Hattiesburg and Petal now pay $35 per day to house inmates at the facility.

Previously, Petal was billed $20 daily and Hattiesburg was billed $32.

Forrest County also increased the rate charged to hold inmates from other counties from $20 to $41 daily.

Board of Supervisors President David Hogan said the most recent calculation put cost estimates for housing an inmate for one day to more than $40 per day.
