JACKSON, MS (AP) - Derrell McLemore threw a touchdown pass, caught one, and saved another from scoring as Lumberton beat Calhoun City 26-24 in the Mississippi Class 2A Championship on Friday.
McLemore, a receiver, caught four passes for 56 yards and a touchdown, and also threw a 78-yard touchdown pass on a trick play. On defense, he snagged a crucial interception in the end zone in the fourth quarter.
Lumberton (14-1) won its fourth title and first since back-to-back championships in 2004 and '05.
J.R. Jennings completed 25 of 47 passes for 317 yards and three touchdowns for Calhoun City (15-1), which rallied from a 20-3 deficit by scoring 21 unanswered points to take a 24-20 lead in the third quarter.
But Lumberton wasn't done, driving 51 yards in the fourth quarter and scoring on Keyshod Willis' 5-yard touchdown to take a 26-24 lead with 7:28 remaining in the game.
