Hancock Co. charges man in burned body case

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Mark Anthony Rice has been indicted in the 2009 Hancock County case where a body was found in a burning truck.

Rice is charged with arson and desecration of a corpse. He should be arraigned during the February Circuit Court term.

Hancock County Sheriff's deputies discovered Natasha Carpenter's body in Rice's burning 18-wheeler parked on Kiln-Picayune Road in August of 2009.

According to Assistant District Attorney Crosby Parker, the grand jury would not indict Rice for murder because Carpenter was killed in California, then driven to Mississippi.
