Mississippi State linebacker Chris White takes home the Cellular South Conerly Trophy

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Mississippi State won the Egg Bowl trophy Saturday in Oxford following a 31-23 win over arch rival Ole Miss.  Tuesday night in Jackson Mississippi State linebacker Chris White won the Cellular South Conerly Trophy honoring the top college football player in the state of Mississippi.

The 6-foot-4, 245 pound senior led the Bulldogs (8-4, 4-4 SEC) with 105 tackles, 15 1/2 those for a loss, six sacks and two interceptions.  The former Vancleave High School and Mississippi Gulf Coast standout beat out Jackson State quarterback Casey Therriault and Southern Miss quarterback Austin Davis for the top honor.

Besides White, Millsaps running back Shane Bowser of Pass Christian was one of the ten nominees in the running for the Conerly Trophy.
