Man tasered by deputies dies of overdose

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A 37-year-old man died of a cocaine overdose this weekend after a struggle with deputies.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd said Blaine Terrell McElroy's girlfriend called 911 after a domestic dispute at her Gulf Park Estates home. Byrd said deputies arrived and eventually had to taser McElroy when he became aggressive with adults and children inside the home.

The 37-year-old was taken to Ocean Springs Hospital where he died. Forensic pathologist Dr. Paul McGarry confirmed that McElroy died of an overdose.

Byrd said the case has been turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the district attorney, and the FBI.
