JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The Jackson County Toys for Tots is getting a boost of more than $10,000.
Jackson County almost was without Toy for Tots this year. However, the program is now working hard to collect for children in need thanks to its new coordinator, Diane Vice.
Vice and her husband have hosted a trail ride for four years to raise money for Toys for Tots. When she was told the charity wouldn't be organized for her county this year, she was crushed.
"The thought of all those kids on Christmas morning without toys, I can't have that," said Vice.
The program then offered a solution. If Vice took over, Toys for Tots would come to Jackson County.
While Vice has been working hard to catch up, she has also been busy planning her annual trail ride. The Helena Mud Ride attracts hundreds of horse riders each year.
Riders spend the day on a trail leading through the untouched woods of Jackson County.
WLOX Reporter Elizabeth Vowell will have more Saturday night on how more than 300 riders have raised more than $10,000.
