Anderson museum gives support to other artists

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - The Walter Anderson Museum of Art is dedicated to preserving and promoting its namesake, Walter Anderson and the Anderson family legacy. But WAMA also strives to showcase the work of other artists from Mississippi and the region.

"It's our duty. The board thinks it's our duty to help encourage artists. Walter Anderson, during his life, had support from his family, but not from the community. Anything we can do to help artists," said Doug Myatt with the museum.

Right now the museum is giving painter William Baggett the opportunity to shine in an exhibition titled "The Intelligent Eye: Reality Re-Seen."

Baggett is retired from the University of Southern Mississippi as chair of the university's Department of Art and Design. His paintings are unique. His lines, designs, colors and textures can surprise those who wander into the Jo Love Little Gallery to view his work.

Doug Myatt said he's always discovering something in Baggett's work.

"I like that every time I come in for a look I see something new."

The Baggett exhibit will be on display through January at the Walter Anderson Museum of Art.
