A day to give thanks

Today is Thanksgiving. A time set aside to reflect on our lives and what we are thankful for. In South Mississippi we have a lot of reasons to be thankful.

One, we live in a area where people really care about their neighbors. Coast residents take time to help neighbors in need of a helping hand. Our community is a place where newcomers are welcomed.

We are blessed to have thousands of servicemen and women who move to our area and become part of our community. We live in an area where there is a diverse ethnic makeup. Whether you are Vietnamese, Hispanic, white or African American you are welcome and have a chance to make a difference.

Our beautiful coastline is something else we can be thankful for. Hundreds of live oak trees dot the landscape and make a beautiful canopy.

Finally we can be thankful this year for a light hurricane season, which allows more of our friends and neighbors to complete the job of building back from Hurricane Katrina.

No doubt you have many other reasons to celebrate this holiday. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
