Biloxi properties designated waterfront

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Highway 90 from Rodenburg Avenue to McDonnell Avenue in Biloxi may soon be zoned waterfront property.

The Biloxi Planning Commission approved the zoning change Thursday. The waterfront designation would go north about halfway to Irish Hill Drive.

Attorney Michael Cavanaugh represents some of the property owners. He said no casino deal is being proposed at this time, but talk is underway about building an educational facility south of Highway 90.

Also at Thursday's meeting, the Planning Commission gave Walmart plat approval to build a Supercenter between CT Switzer Road and Beach Boulevard.

The Commission also approved a variance that allows Walmart to exceed the 60 percent impervious surface limit which the company representatives say is needed for adequate parking.

Walmart officials say they also need a tree removal permit to move forward. Biloxi Arborist Eric Nolan agreed that the trees Walmart wants to cut down are in bad shape.
