South Mississippi weekend whereabouts November 12th-14th

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The 20th Annual Magnolia State Gem, Mineral and Jewelry show will be held at the Jackson County Civic Center Friday through Sunday. Check out meteorite displays, fossilized exhibits and a number of other interesting and educational exhibits. There will also be several items for sale. The show is from 10a.m. until 6p.m.

The oil disaster won't put a damper on oyster season. The season officially opened this week and in celebration of this milestone the city of Pass Christian is hosting Oyster Fest. Enjoy an oyster shucking and eating contest, fishing rodeo, boat parade and a whole lot more. Friday at 6p.m. is the VIP party and Saturday and Sunday the festival opens at 10a.m. at the Pass Harbor.

Come out an honor the men and women who make tremendous sacrifices to protect our freedom. This year's grand marshal is a former marine and astronaut Fred Haise. The annual Gulf Coast Veterans Parade rolls through downtown Biloxi Saturday beginning at 11a.m.

Enjoy a beautiful evening overlooking the water at the Bay Waveland Yacht Club. The Coastal Conservation Association is hosting Sunset on the Bay. Enjoy great food, music a live and silent auction and more. The event is Saturday at 7p.m.

Put on your kilts and head over to the Harrison County Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday for a weekend of competition and fun. Enjoy traditional Irish athletic competitions, a medieval village, children's games a parade and more. The Scottish games and Celtic festival is from 9a.m. until 5p.m.

Get your Christmas shopping out of the way. Head over to the Coast Coliseum for the Christmas City Gift Show. More than 150 vendors featuring arts and crafts from all over the country will be there. The show opens Saturday at 9a.m. and Sunday at 10a.m.

Don't put your beach bags in the closet just yet, Sunday the Junior Auxiliary of Biloxi and Ocean Springs is hosting a Fall Beach Bash to benefit the children of South Mississippi. It's free, just bring money for food. The fun is from 1p.m. until 5p.m. at Fort Maurepas Park.

Dig out your antiques and see how much they're worth. Professional Antique Dealers will be on hand at Scranton's Restaurant Sunday from 2p.m. until 4p.m. to appraise your items.
