Cool gators love warm sun in Moss Point

MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) -

MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - Cool water and abundant sunshine make for ideal alligator watching conditions at the Gulf Coast Gator Ranch in Moss Point.

"With the temperatures, the alligators like to come out on the shore and get some sun," said Gator Ranch owner Allan Adams.

People come to Mississippi from all over the world to see these fascinating and primitive creatures.

"Alligators go back 200 million years and people love to see the mysterious gators."

Visitors get on air boats for a one of a kind adventure into the swamps and bayous of South Mississippi.

"You see alligators and other wildlife, beautiful scenery like cypress trees and Spanish moss," Adams said.

The main attraction, of course, is alligators of all sizes. Baby gators are kept in pens just waiting for their opportunity to get into the water.

The ranch features one huge gator that is always a crowd pleaser. He's 13 feet long and weighs more than 900 pounds.

The 105 acre operation is located on Highway 90 near the Grand Bay Estuary. The ranch is open seven days a week. Adams said the best time to see alligators catching a few rays is right now when the weather is cool.
