GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) – New details have emerged in the death of a 28 year old Gulfport woman.  Police say the victim was Taneka Johnson.  Her body was found overnight in the backyard of a home on 50th Avenue.

An autopsy is being done today to determine how Johnson died.  All a police investigator will tell WLOX News is, "It was a brutal scene."

Kevin Crockett is in jail this morning, accused by Gulfport Police of Johnson's murder. The 42-year-old was taken into custody early this morning. According to a Gulfport Police Department news release, his bond has been set at $5 million.

Gulfport patrolmen arrived in the 3100 block of 50th Avenue just before midnight because of a report of suspicious activity.  That's when they found Johnson's body in the backyard.

A short time later, the police report says officers went to Crockett's home on Monterey Drive and arrested him without incident.

Johnson had two children.  They're with local family members.
