WASHINGTON, DC (WLOX) – A judge in the nation's capital has dismissed all charges against an Ocean Springs man accused of simple assault and other crimes against a woman earlier this year.
In April, Scott Walker was charged in Washington D.C. with two misdemeanors, simple assault and attempted possession of a prohibited weapon. The weapon was alleged to be a cell phone.
Washington, D.C. Superior Court Judge, the Honorable Fern Saddler, dismissed all charges against the Ocean Springs' businessman and former mayoral candidate at the recommendation of US Justice Department prosecutors.
"The court dropped the charges because the prosecution's investigation convinced them the charges were false. The events reported to the authorities never happened. The Justice Department learned that this incident was part of a pattern of deceit by the accuser. It's very sad, but this was not the first time she has hurt herself like this," Walker said in a statement to the media.
"I'm glad to put all of this behind me, but it's not a time for celebration. I'm truly concerned about the welfare of the accuser," Walker continued."This ordeal over the past seven months has made me a stronger and, hopefully, wiser person. I can't tell you how much it meant to have my family and friends supporting me during this time."
