BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - According to the website former Mississippi State quarterback John Bond said former Bulldogs player Kenny Rogers solicited payment to secure Cam Newton's services.
ESPN.com reports that Mississippi State refused to get involved with Rogers, who has come under scrutiny from the NFL Players Association and the NCAA.
The Associated Press contacted Newton's father, Cecil, and he says the family denies any allegations and is cooperating with the investigation.
According to Bond, Mississippi State officials were approached by Rogers when Cam Newton made his official recruiting trip to Starkville during the Egg Bowl.
Mississippi State reportedly contacted the SEC about Bond's information.
Mississippi State has refused to comment on the Newton story.
