PICAYUNE, MS (WLOX) - PICAYUNE, MS (AP) - Picayune residents will vote next Tuesday on whether to allow liquor to be sold in restaurants. Picayune is in Pearl River County, which does not allow the sale of alcohol.
City voters will decide whether Picayune will have resort status. That would allow the sale of liquor in a specific area within an otherwise dry county. Officials say the election would not open the way for package stores.
City Clerk Priscilla Daniel tells the Picayune Item that if the resort status is approved, restaurants will need to be abide by laws that require a minimum distance from schools and churches.
