Palazzo hitting the ground running

By Elizabeth Vowell – email

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - At the Palazzo campaign headquarters that were buzzing with activity just one day ago, the phones are silent, the garbage bags are full, and the signs are piling up.  The heated campaigning for the 4th district congressional seat is now a thing of the past.

"It's definitely a different mood. We're not working 24/7. Some of the staff came in to help box up to get ready for the transition to our full time office, but it's just very exciting," said 4th District Congressman-elect Steven Palazzo (R).

"A little bit still surprising to us. We woke up this morning and said, did this really happen? But, because of the South Mississippi, it did," said Palazzo's wife, Lisa.

Instead of taking a day to savor the win, Palazzo has spent the day in interviews and meetings, while his team packed up the office.  Even though elections are over, the real work has just begun. "

"We're going to hit the ground running. I'm already looking for some committee assignments," said Palazzo.

In a few weeks Palazzo will head to the nation's capital for orientation.  He will also begin laying the ground work for the policies he promised.  The congressman-elect is aiming to put his military experience to work on the armed forces committee, among others.

"I'm open to whatever the leadership decides is the best fit but I want to make sure it's the best fit for South Mississippi as well," said Palazzo.
