Today is Veterans Day. A day set aside to honor living veterans who served in the military during war time or peace time. Saturday morning there is a parade in Biloxi, as well as several other ceremonies in South Mississippi.
To often we take our veterans for granted. Many of them spend weeks if not years away from their families and loved ones. Surely we can take a few moments out of this upcoming weekend to reflect on the sacrifices many of these individuals have made so we can live in a free society.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast is a special place and one reason is because of the large number of veterans that call South Mississippi home. They are your next door neighbor, your little league coach or a United Way volunteer.
President Barack Obama in a Veterans Day Proclamation said, " to all of them, to our veterans, to the fallen and their families, there is no tribute, no commemoration, no praise that can truly match the magnitude of your service and your sacrifice."
This Veterans Day we salute the men and women who currently or have defended our country around the globe.
