BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - Without record-setting quarterback Dylan Favre, who is now a red-shirt freshman at Mississippi State, St. Stanislaus began the 2010 season losing 2 of its first 3 games.
It took a little time to develop a new offensive attack under the leadership of junior quarterback Bo Brennan.
The Rockachaws began clicking and the wins have piled up. Entering Friday's title showdown at Purvis, St. Stanislaus has won 6 consecutive games.
Bo Brennan said, "Coming out this week and working hard and getting that district championship is very important not only for us and our team but for our community and showing everybody that this team really does mean business and that we can really get it done."
Brennan has developed his own style of leadership, helping the Rockachaws become contenders. "Beau has continued to mature as the season has progressed," stated St. Stanislaus head coach Forrest Williams. He added, "He's got almost a thousand yards rushing and has thrown for almost 2000 yards. Right now he leads the state of Mississippi in total offense in all classifications."
Purvis presents a strong challenge for the defending state champs. The Tornadoes were unbeaten at 8 and 0 before losing to Forrest County AHS 28 to 21 last Friday.
"Purvis is definitely one of the top teams here in the South, 4A," Williams said despite Friday's loss. "We knew at the beginning of the year that it was going to be tough. They had a lot of seniors coming back. We're looking to have a great game with them."
The Rockachaws experienced offensive line will be a factor on Friday. Rockachaws offensive guard Tyler Cowand said, "We've been working all summer and everything and this is what we're working for the culmination of our work."
St. Stanislaus right guard Jordan Hawthorne added, "I think we have a good chance of winning if we do our assignments and handle those well. We can do a great job if we come out fast. We'll come out on top I believe."
If the Rockachaws can remain unbeaten in the district race by knocking off Purvis, St. Stanislaus will secure the Region 8-4A title.
