BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The City of Biloxi is happy to have federal stimulus money and hoping more comes their way.
The federal money is paying for improvements along Highway 67. Underground wiring is going in the median, and 33 aluminum towers are being erected along the ever busier roadway.
The city also used stimulus money to cover the cost of adding a westbound turning lane at I-110 and Division Street, to repave Beauvoir, and repair the sidewalk.
Because of the budget crisis it is facing, Biloxi has put capital spending projects on hold. That's why this federal money was so important.
Mayor Holloway said the money was critical to the city.
"We would not have been able to do these projects without the money," he said.
The mayor is hopeful more federal money may be coming the city's way. If it is, he pointed out that Biloxi will have no problem finding places to spend it.
"It won't take us long because we have a lot of capital projects we can jump right on," he said.
The mayor expects to find out in the next couple of months if the city is getting any more federal stimulus dollars.
