Mayor, supervisors meet on Ocean Springs beach, sidewalk proposals

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran met with Jackson County supervisors Monday and had a number of requests.

The mayor wants the county to extend its sand permit on Front Beach in Ocean Springs. And she wants the beach expanded from 100 feet near the seawall to 120 feet, as well as sand added to stop erosion.

Mayor Moran also asked for funding from the county for a new sidewalk project that will lead to downtown Ocean Springs. She said the project will promote a more walkable community.

"We need to make a move on this pretty quickly. So, yes, they are all very timely and realistic," Mayor Moran said.

Moran also asked the board to provide manpower to repair and repaint the Front Beach seawall.

Supervisors told the mayor they will have more discussions before making any decisions.
