GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A stubborn, smokey fire off Landon Road kept Gulfport firefighters busy late Saturday morning. Firefighters have extinguished the fire that broke out on Landon Road, just west of Canal Road.
According to reporter Steve Phillips who was on the scene, firefighters responded to a carport fire at the home of Don Yarborough.
Officials say no one was hurt, but the carport could not be saved. The homeowner said he lost several things in the fire, including his RV and lawn mower.
It is unknown at this point what caused the fire. No other structures were damaged.
A section of Landon Road just west of Canal Road was shutdown for about an hour as firefighters worked to control the fire.
Gulfport firefighters used tanker trucks to transport water to the scene.
The home owner said he'd been outside just minutes before the fire started and was alerted by a next door neighbor.
"I went back in to turn on the ball game, and somebody knocked on my door and said, 'It's on fire.'" Gulfport Resident Don Yarbrough said. "By that time, it was all engulfed, my motor home, my generator, my lawn mower and just different stuff. Nobody was hurt. It just hurt my pride."
