Thousands of people join in the fight against cancer

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - More than 200,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and more than 40,000 will die from the disease. Today in Biloxi thousands of local breast cancer survivors, volunteers and community leaders will take to the streets to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer.

The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk begins at nine this morning at the Biloxi Town Green. Funds raised through Making Strides will help the American Cancer Society save lives by providing support to people diagnosed with Cancer, funding research, and lobbying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat Cancer.

Biloxi's Making Strides event is one of more than 200 walks being held across the country this year. WLOX News will be at the walk and later on WLOX.com and WLOX News we'll share with you some of the stories behind the faces of this year's walkers.
