South Mississippi weekend whereabouts - October 22-24

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The best week of the year in Jackson County continues through the weekend. Come out to the Jackson County Fair Friday for children's day, midnight madness and a dog show. Saturday enjoy an idol talent show and Sunday wraps up with great deals on the rides. The fair opens at 8a.m. Friday & Saturday and Sunday at 12:30p.m.

Pucks will be flying at the Coast Coliseum for the opening of the 2010 - 2011 Surge Hockey Season. The Surge will take on Louisiana Friday and Columbus Saturday. Come out and show your support for the team the puck will be dropped at 7p.m.

After the game Saturday stick around because it's your chance to take the ice. Try some jumps, maybe a figure eight or just try to stay on your feet. The ice is open immediately after the game and is open to the first 200 skaters. To assure your spot on the ice call (228) 594-3700.

Paddle by moonlight down Old Fort Bayou for the full moon kayak adventure. Bring your own kayak or rent one for the evening. The 2 hour adventure begins at 5:45p.m. at the shop on Government Street in Ocean Springs.

Saturday morning join thousands of South Mississippians in making strides against Breast Cancer. Form a team or walk on your own. Everyone is welcome registration begins at 8a.m. and the walk begins at 9 at the Biloxi Town Green.

Take a fascinating look at nature in South Mississippi. In honor of National Wildlife Refuge Week the Sandhill Crane refuge invites you to Crane Fest. Take a nice trip on the water to see cranes flying around in their natural habitat, enjoy a kayak tour, hike live music and more. The fun is Saturday from 9a.m. until 3p.m. at the refuge in Gautier.

Bring Fido and Fluffy out Saturday morning for a very special blessing. Pet Memory is holding their first Blessing of the Animals Saturday at 10a.m. at the facility on 28th avenue in Gulfport.

Celebrate Halloween this weekend and next. Saturday put on your costumes and Trick or Treat around the Biloxi Town Green. And when the sun goes down enjoy a movie. In return for candy you are asked to bring one can of food for the Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen. The festivities begin at 5p.m.

Keep your costumes on for the Mermaid Masquerade Saturday night in Waveland. Dance the night away in disguise, there will be a costume contest, raffle and great music. The fun is at the St. Clare Community Center beginning at 8p.m.
