Ocean Springs serviceman sentenced to prison in Japan

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - The son of a prominent Mississippi Gulf Coast family has been sentenced to almost three years in a Japanese prison.

Staff Sgt. Clyde "Drew" Gunn, a combat medic, was charged with accidentally striking and killing a 66-year-old Japanese man on an unlit road last November.

Gunn did not report the accident, saying he didn't know he struck the man. Under Japanese law, that is a crime.

Gunn was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison. His father, attorney Buddy Gunn, told WLOX News the case is under appeal, but the Gunns also seek forgiveness from the victim's family, and offer their condolences.
