MIAMI, FL (WLOX) - Tropical Storm Richard has formed in the Caribbean with 40 mph winds.
Richard is the 17th tropical storm of the season. It's expected to intensify and could become a hurricane over the weekend.
At 10am Thursday, the storm was located at 16.2N, 80.4W, about 220 miles south-southeast of Grand Cayman. It's currently moving southeast at six mph.
Forecasters expect Richard to produce about four to eight inches of rain over Jamaica, and up to 12 inches in the higher terrains. They also warn that the storm could produce life-threatening flash floods and mud slides.
