Golden Eagles lose a player to an injury and another player has left the team

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Southern Miss football coach Larry Fedora announced on Tuesday that  the Golden Eagles lost the services of senior linebacker Martez Smith for the rest of the season.  He sustained a knew injury in a 44-43 loss to East Carolina on Saturday.

"Obviously, he is a big part of this football team, a major contributor and a leader," said Fedora.  "Now, what he will do is help led this team from the sidelines."

Fedora also announced that defensive back Gerald West has left the team for person reasons.The red shirt freshman from Mobile, Alabama played in four games and made three tackles.

Sophomore running back Demon Johnson is back after serving a one game suspension for breaking team rules.

"He had a great day today and moved around great," said Fedora.  "He had a great attitude all last week.  He knew he made a mistake and had to pay the consequences.  Once you pay those consequences you move on."

The Golden Eagles football team began putting in the game plan for the Memphis game Tuesday afternoon.  Southern Miss and Memphis clash for the 61st time in the Black and Blue game.  The Golden Eagles hold a 38-21-1 advantage in the series.
