Coast business women honored in Biloxi

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Business women from throughout South Mississippi gathered at the IP Tuesday for an event designed to honor their own.

Lighthouse Business and Professional Women sponsored an expo and awards luncheon to recognize achievements earned by women in the three coastal counties. Awards were given in four categories: medical, education, non-profit and corporate.

Lighthouse BPW appreciates challenges and opportunities for women in the 21st century.

"It instills a work balance, lifestyle balance between work and personal lives. I encourages that balance," said Fiona Lipscomb with Lighthouse BPW. "There is a range of challenges. There is the glass ceiling to think about. I think these days there is diversity in companies, so that encourages women to reach greater heights in their careers."

The winners were Kearn Cherry from PRN Home Care, gifted educator Joyce Youngblood from Anniston Elementary, Regions Bank President Cheryl Johnson, and the Reverend Carol Burnett, Director of the Mississippi Low Income Childcare Initiative. Burnett also received the 2010 Woman of the Year Award.
