GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A woods fire is burning on the east side of Cowan-Lorraine Road. It is next to the Coast Radio Group and Industrial Seaway Road just north on the tracks.
Gulfport firefighters are on the scene battling the blaze.
Fire officials say they have the fire contained; however, it has already burned about three acres of forest. They don't believe the fire is a threat to any homes or businesses.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters say, based on where the fire originated, it is possible that the fire was set deliberately.

Earlier in the week on Wednesday Gov. Haley Barbour declared a State of Emergency banning all outdoor burning because of extremely dry conditions statewide. The dry conditions have increased the risk for wildfires, and forest fires already have burned wide areas of Mississippi, causing damage to public and private property and timberland.
"Everyone across the state needs to take the threat of wildfire seriously," Gov. Barbour said. "These dry conditions can cause fires to quickly spread out of control. I urge everyone to be mindful of how you dispose of flammable objects, such as cigarettes and matches, and to refrain from burning trash or leaves."
