OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - The Sock Hop began with plenty of oldies but goodies, which had the crowd swinging to the beat. Even a jitterbug could be seen now and then. If you looked closely, you could even spot Elvis and Marilyn.
Hundreds of people gathered for the Ocean Springs Crusin' event Friday night, both young and old. The common theme was a good time, with the cars as the number one draw.
"I think they are all really cool," Ethan Worch said. "It's really a lot of fun to be able to come down here and see them all."
Also, seeing them all was the police motorcycle unit which couldn't resist joining in on the fun. Neither could man's best friend, or even cruisers so young they won't remembers a thing about this year's event.
Michael Jordan owns one of the eye catching cars at this year's cruise.
"I own a '68 398 S code Mustang car, which is a step below the Shelby Mustang. Very few made, it's pretty rare on the coast," Jordan said. "67s and 68s were scooped up after the movie 'Gone in 60 Seconds' came out."
While everyone and everything can be seen at Cruisin' the Coast, one thing stands out among all others: the memories.
"The music just really, that really just brings you back and it takes you back to certain things you were doing at certain times in some of these cars, so it's just a lot of fun," Terry Hartlein said.
And what would a street party be like without a little Mardi Gras parade tossed in for good measure.
The three days of city sponsored activities winds up Saturday evening, after another day of live music, food, fun, and, of course, plenty of classic cars.
