Gulfport event offers free tools to protect kids

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Parents can get free child safety advice Saturday from the John Walsh Child Safety Program. The program provides parents with vital tools recommended by the FBI and the Department of Justice, including new biometric fingerprinting and DNA identification kit.

The program is taking place at Champion Chrysler Dodge Jeep, 435 E. Pass Road in Gulfport from 10am to 3pm.

The John Walsh Child Safety Program describes Biometrics as the newest and most advanced technology available today for obtaining fingerprints. It's done with the same equipment presently used by federal agencies, law enforcement, and the US military.

Law enforcement officials say that time is critical in the recovery of a missing child. The Biometric Technology program allows parents to immediately submit their child's fingerprints into the FBI Database as soon as they are reported missing. Once in the database, the fingerprints become immediately available to all law enforcement agencies throughout the United States.

Parents who bring their children to the event will receive: @

  • A free Home DNA Identification Kit
  • A Child Safety Journal
  • An FBI Certified Biometric 10 Digit Fingerprint Profile
  • A high resolution, full color digital photograph of your child
