BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Mississippi Gulf Coast suffered a 30-27 overtime loss to arch-rival Pearl River last week in Poplarville dropping the Bulldogs from number 1 to Number 3 in the latest NJCAA Football Poll released on Tuesday.
With the big win the Wildcats leaped back into the Top 20 at number 12, one spot ahead of Gulf Coast.
Butler was the unanimous pick for the Number 1 ranks by voters this week. The Grizzlies received 140 total points and all seven first place votes.
Fellow Kansas Jayhawk CC Conference members Hutchinson Community College and Coffeyville Community College are ranked Number 2 and Number 3 respectively.
Butler remained unbeaten posting a 35-12 win over Garden City on Saturday. 6-5, 250 pound quarterback Zach Mettenberger, who has LSU high on his recruiting list, completed 10 of 18 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns.
Northwest Mississippi (5-0) is the highest ranking state school in the poll at number 7.
In the last five weeks four different teams have held the number one ranking, Blinn, Arizona Western, Mississippi Gulf Coast and now Butler takes over the top spot.
Mississippi Gulf Coast entertains East Central 7:00 p.m. Thursday night in Perkinston. Pearl River hits the road at Wesson 5:00 p.m. on Saturday facing Co-Lin.
