Gulfport woman charged with embezzling from Beau Rivage

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - A woman who worked in risk management at Beau Rivage is now charged with embezzling close to $200,000 from the casino resort.

Diana Lynette Varnado of Gulfport is charged with three counts of embezzlement. Investigators believe since she first went to work at Beau Rivage in 2008, Varnado has stolen more than $195,000.

Beau Rivage officials said while they don't discuss specific personnel matters, they do have "Clear and strict expectations that all employees comply with all laws and regulations."

"We absolutely do not tolerate any non-compliance and we handle these rare instances accordingly," Beau Rivage Spokesperson Mary Cracchiolo-Spain said. "In such cases, we turn any relevant information over to authorities and fully cooperate with any resulting investigations or prosecutions. We are committed to, and will aggressively protect, the interests of customers, employees and shareholders."

Varnado bonded out of the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $225,000 bond.
