GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Before all the classic cars start Cruisin' the Coast, drag boat races will be Smokin' the Lake this weekend in Gulfport.
The Dock Bar and Grill off Seaway Road is the official headquarters for the Deep South Racing Association Championship. Qualifying races were held Friday in the different categories, which include pro-stock, performance bass boats and super-stock.
Organizers say race fans can expect an exciting weekend of high speed competition on Gulfport Lake.
"Some of them will be running as much at 130 miles an hour. A lot of them will be doing 100 miles an hour in the quarter," race spokesman Travis Asher said. "It's basically a drag boat race, two boats at a time. And we're running today [Friday] until we get four classes. Tomorrow, we'll do three classes."
The boat racing continues on Gulfport Lake from 9am until 3pm Saturday and from 9am until 5pm on Sunday.
