Pearl River rallied in second half to upset number one ranked Gulf Coast 30-27 in overtime

POPLARVILLE, MS (WLOX) - It was a tale of two halves.  The top-ranked Gulf Coast Bulldogs used a 56-yard touchdown pass from Clayton Moore to Javon Bell and two field goals to take a 13 to nothing half time lead.

Coach Steve Campbell's Bulldogs added a touchdown early in the 3rd quarter and it looked as if Gulf Coast would extend its winning streak to 5 games over the Wildcats.

Pearl River head coach Tim Hatten got his troops back on track and the Wildcats would run off 27 straight points to take a 27 to 20 advantage.  Pearl River quarterback Melvin German connected with Steve Simon for two touchdown passes.

Gulf Coast battled back and forced overtime with 1:02 remaining on the clock.  Quarterback Clayton Moore fired an 11 yard touchdown strike to Javon Bell on 4th and goal.

The Wildcats attempted a 47-yard field goal, the kick was blocked and the game went into overtime.

Gulf Coast had the ball first and it looked as if the Bulldogs would take a 7 point lead, but running back Eric Wills was hit hard and fumbled the ball into the end zone.  The Wildcats recovered for a touchback.

The Wildcats took over and Travis Bradley would kick a 25-yard game winning field goal propelling Pearl River to an upset 30-27 win over previously undefeated Gulf Coast.
