GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Gulfport Police have made an arrest in a drive-by shooting that sent two men to the hospital Monday night. J'Var Vontou Pope, 18, of Gulfport was arrested without incident. He's being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center in lieu of a $200,000 bond.
Shortly after the shooting Monday evening, officers tracked down a gold SUV that matched the description of the vehicle involved in the shooting. The SUV was located at 33rd Avenue and 28th Street around 7:30pm. When officers approached the vehicle, two men ran away. Police say Pope was apprehended a short time later.
The two shooting victims were taken to the hospital, but information on their condition has not been released.
Gulfport Councilwoman Ella Holmes-Hines has called an emergency Neighborhood Watch meeting to take place Thursday at 6pm. More information on that meeting will be announced later. The Forest Heights Homeowners Association and the Gulfport Police Department's Community Watch program will be on hand for that meeting.
