An invitation to celebrate in Gulfport

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A big celebration is set to take place this afternoon in North Gulfport. The public is invited to come out to see the new Boys and Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast's Forest Heights Center.

Today's open house marks the official grand opening of the new 21,00 square foot center. Hurricane Katrina destroyed the old club which was established in 1990. The new club was built back in the same location. Donations through the Capital Campaign and Project Rejuvenation made the club's return possible.

"This is a great moment for Gulfport," said Gulf Coast Boys and Girls Clubs Operations Director Greg Gipson. "It has been a long road in rebuilding since the storm, reopening this club in this new building will bring us into the new fiscal year with safe, secure places for our kids to come with all the amenities to cultivate their talents and interests."

The open house begins at 4:30 this afternoon. Rebecca Powers will be there as residents tour this facility for our children. Watch for her live report tonight on WLOX News at 5pm.
