VANCLEAVE, MS (WLOX) – Thousands of South Mississippi students met at the flagpole before class Wednesday for inspirational praise and prayer. "See You at the Pole" is a nationwide event. In Vancleave, the prayer rally attracted one of the largest crowds ever.
Before the school bells rang at Vancleave Middle School and Vancleave High School, classmates of all denominations stood side by side under their school's flagpole to sing and reach out to God for help.
One by one, the teens expressed what was on their minds. Youth for Christ helps promote the See You at The Pole prayer rally. Director Brad Holt said this is the largest number of young people he has seen publicly take a stand for God in years.
"Ten years ago, you would have 10 or 20 kids at the most around the flagpole. We had 200 or so at Vancleave Middle and over 120 at Vancleave High School," Holt said of Wednesday's events.
The movement is continuing to spread to schools across the globe. Holt credits the growth to local churches and Christian organizations teaching kids the value of prayer.
"As long as you have tests, there is going to be prayer. See You at the Pole is the largest day of prayer in the entire world. It is amazing to see what God is doing, and it is amazing to see students step up to the plate."
