Students to pray around the pole

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Across South Mississippi and our country, students will gather around their school flagpoles this morning to pray. Today is National See You at the Pole Day.

In addition to the morning prayer rallies, more than a thousand children from schools across the coast are expected to participate in a coast wide See You at the Pole Rally this evening at 6:30 at Cedar Lake Christian Academy. They are part of an estimated one and a half million students across the country who will pray around their school flagpoles.

See You at the Pole began 20 years ago in Burleson, Texas. Organizers say the event offers young Christians a chance to pray for each other, their schools and their country at the beginning of each academic year.

At tonight's rally in Harrison County every school across the Gulf Coast is expected to be represented and a slide show is planned of this morning's gatherings around schools' flagpoles.

WLOX News will cover the Cedar Lake Christian Assembly rally and later today on and WLOX News hear what tops the prayers of our local students this school year.
