POPLARVILLE, MS (WLOX) - HATTIESBURG, MS (WLOX) - A 23-year-old Poplarville business woman and USM student is the winner of the Fox reality show MasterChef. Whitney Miller and her family have known for months that she was the winner, but they couldn't tell anyone.
The show finale aired Wednesday night. Miller was awarded a quarter of a million dollars and the opportunity to publish her own cookbook with the backing of world class Chef Gordan Ramsay.
Miller believes it was her pastry abilities that really set her apart from the other contestants. She also said she learned so much from the experience working with such top notch chefs and contestants.
She made a fried corn cake with a black eye pea puree, fried chicken breast with collard greens and a white chocolate souffle.
Wednesday night, Miller held a viewing party at the Alumni House in Hattiesburg where hundreds of family and friends turned out to support her.
"It's hard to keep a secret from people in Poplarville," Miller said.
Miller currently has her own restaurant in Poplarville Mississippi called Glaze.
Danielle Thomas is in Poplarville today following the story. She will have more on this South Mississippi Pastry Princess later on WLOX News and WLOX.com.
