Pass Christian Schools' star is twinkling the brightest

It's been described like winning the Super Bowl twice in two years. We are referring to the Pass Christian School District being designated a Star School for the second year in a row. Only three school systems in the entire state received this top rating. The other two were Petal and Enterprise.

The ratings are based on last year's statewide test scores as well as academic growth and dropout and graduation rates.

Despite most of its schools being devastated by Hurricane Katrina, Pass Christian School District is excelling and coming back better than before. Superintendent Sue Matheson says they still have a lot of work to do and knows they can't rest on their most recent scores.

If you study the Pass Christian School District you will find highly motivated students, great teachers and administrators and parents who get involved in their school district.

We also want to recognize Biloxi, Gulfport, Jackson County, Long Beach and Ocean Springs Schools for getting the next highest rating, high performing. We are proud of all of our successful school districts and especially proud of Pass Christian for continuing to raise the bar for education excellence in South Mississippi.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
