LOS ANGELES, CA (WLOX) - Waveland native Michael Grimm wins the $1 million prize on NBC's America's Got Talent.
He's wowed the nation with his raspy soulful sound. Now, he walked away the winner of the $1 Million dollar prize and a headlining act in Las Vegas.
Michael Grimm's grandparents, Laura and Thomas Butters, say his talent began developing at a very early age. By the age of 11, they say Grimm had taught himself to play guitar and keyboard.
Laura said, "He'd get up there and sing to them, and they'd all clap. And I walked out, and he'd say, 'Grand mama, I'm going to be a star one day!' I'd say, 'Sure, Michael.' And he proved it; he's going to be a super star."
As a teenager, Grimm performed at several local night spots before moving to Las Vegas in his early 20's.
"The best I can put it into a shell, it's a God given talent that Michael Grimm has," Laura said.
Grimm's Grandparents say Michael has promised them he would buy them a new house in Hancock County. The couple lost their home in Bayside Park in hurricane Katrina and are now living in a mobile home in Pearl River County.
