Child exploitation conviction overturned

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - JACKSON, MS (AP) - Mississippi's Court of Appeals overturns a Greene County man's conviction for child exploitation because the intended target was actually a 29-year-old woman posing as a teenager.

However, the court upheld Justin David Shaffer's conviction for attempted child exploitation.

Tuesday's ruling sends the case back to Greene County Circuit Court for re-sentencing, even though the penalties for child exploitation and attempted child exploitation are the same.

The Appeals Court says it wants the trial judge to decide whether to reconsider Schaffer's sentence.
