Governor orders flags lowered to honor 9/11 victims

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Governor Haley Barbour ordered the state flag to be lowered in observance of Patriot Day on Saturday.

The symbol will honor the victims of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and the brave first responders who sacrificed their lives to save others.

"We must never forget the events of Sept. 11 and the heroic efforts of those emergency crews who risked their lives, and in many cases gave their lives, to save their fellow citizens," Gov. Barbour said.

"We also should take time to thank and honor our men and women in the military who are fighting to protect our freedom and prevent future terrorist attacks on America. Many Mississippians in the National Guard and Reserve and on active duty have shown great courage and resilience as they work to protect our nation."
