OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - A new exhibition at the Walter Anderson Museum of Art in Ocean Springs gives visitors a look at what it takes to put a show together.
In the biography "The Secret World of Walter Anderson," Author Hester Bass and Illustrator E.B. Lewis showcase Anderson's love affair with Horn Island. The exhibit reveals the process of creating a book.
"It is really the anatomy of how a book is put together from beginning to end," said Museum Executive Director Linda Bloom.
Lewis used Anderson family members, like Walter's son John, as models to photograph scenes. He then did a sketch from the photo and the image was turned into a watercolor illustration for the book.
Bass and Lewis were fascinated with Anderson's legendary trips to Horn Island where he produced so much art.
"E.B. Lewis is depicting the mysterious and engaging world on trips to Horn Island Walter took from 1948 until his death in 1965," Bloom said.
The exhibition features 18 original Walter Anderson works and 50 original paintings by E.B. Lewis.
The Secret World of Walter Anderson is having its world premier in Ocean Springs.
"We're so proud to sponsor the first showing here before it travels around the country," said Bloom.
The exhibition runs through January 3, 2011 at the Walter Anderson Museum of Art on Washington Avenue in Ocean Springs.
