Humane Society, PetSmart host adoption weekend

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The Humane Society of South Mississippi and PetSmart want to save 100 lives in three days during PetSmart Charities Second Chance for Love National Adoption Weekend September 10, 11 and 12 at PetSmart's Crossroads shopping center location in Gulfport.

Gulfport's local PetSmart Charities Second Chance for Love National Adoption Weekend will feature adoptable pets each day from September 10-12 at the following times

  • Friday September, 10 from 10am-2pm
  • Saturday, September 11 from 11am-4pm
  • Sunday, September 12 from 11am-4pm

The weekend event will showcase more than 140 adoptable pets from HSSM and the Waveland Animal Shelter. Saturday's festivities will include on-site adoptions as well as lots of children's activities, face painting, hula hoop contests, Basset Belly Rubs, and even a pony.

"The Crossroads PetSmart has graciously offered up their location in order to help save 100 lives in three days," said Tara High, Executive Director at HSSM, "We urge our community to open their hearts and their homes and offer pets a second chance for love."

    Roads near Highway 90 and Highway 63 in Pascagoula opened this morning. Police removed barricades at 3:15 a.m. after experts determined a chemical leak no longer posed a threat. Emergency teams determined an empty rail car was the source of that leak. They tell WLOX News Now they contacted Chevron officials to make the necessary repairs.
