Chartered plane to bring veterans back home to Gulfport
GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -
GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - In less than a month, many of the veterans evacuated during Hurricane Katrina will return home to Gulfport to live in the new Armed Forces Retirement Home.
Congressman Gene Taylor told WLOX News that plans are underway to charter a plane from Washington D.C. to bring the senior veterans back to the Mississippi coast. They're expected to arrive at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport around noon on Monday, October 4.
Construction of the new $200 million project in Gulfport is nearly finished. A trio of eight story towers will replace the former 11 story building which stood there for decades. The project features plenty of amenities, including a four lane bowling alley.
The new Miss Mississippi Sarah Beth James will be on hand October 4th to welcome our senior veterans home. And of course, WLOX News will be there as well.
